But he may never get what he wants, thanks to the fuk├║ — the ancient curse that has haunted Oscar's family for generations, dooming them to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-starred love. Review: Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me, Book 1)

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
Published by HarperCollins (02/04/14)
Genres: Young Adult
Format: Audiobook

Pages: 416 (Kindle) • Source: Rented

My rating: 4.0

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love.” With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her. The Shatter Me series is perfect for fans who crave action-packed young adult novels with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu. Tahereh Mafi has created a captivating and original story that combines the best of dystopian and paranormal, and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and satisfying end.
My Thoughts

I have waited a few days for this review because I wasn't sure where to begin. The conclusion to Mafi's Shatter series was highly anticipated and I couldn't wait to see what would happen with these amazing characters. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed; although, I wasn't entirely satisfied either. It was a bitter sweet ending and while I love the direction the story took there was a lot left to be imagined. Normally, I don't have a problem with this. I'm not the sort of person that requires a books ending be delivered to me in a perfect gift box with bow included; however, there are certain aspects that I have to at least be able to anticipate or, at the very least, be able to come up with on my own. I regret to say that a few things were left with no direction or possibility to foreshadow. With that being said, I think the best way to provide this review is with a "like" vs "didn't like" mentality.

Review: Skylar Wishes (Enchanted #2)

Skylar Wishes (Enchanted #2) by Tina L. Hook

Published on: October 15, 2013
Format: Ebook

Pages: 1,220 • Source: I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Buy it: AmazonAdd it: Goodreads
My rating: 3.0

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Grace is the only one who remembers the truth—that comets are the source of extraordinary destinies. Since their last night together, all memory of their comets and their old powers has abandoned Skylar and Alina. All that is left is Alina’s enduring envy for everything Skylar touches, and Alina’s sudden ability to wake up inside of Skylar’s body, if only for a few minutes. After Alina finally forces her will and switches bodies with Skylar, harsh realities surface. The holes in Skylar’s relationship with Darren are exposed, and Skylar herself becomes seduced by the idea of living two lives at once, and loving two men at once. Grace might be able to save them, but everything Skylar and Alina know about love has to change. When their comets return, these three women must choose their fate once more.
My Thoughts

When I agreed to review Skylar Wishes I didn't realize it was a sequel and it wasn't until about half-way through the book, when I couldn't make much sense of what was happening, that I did a little research and realized there is a book one. With that being said, I do not recommend this book be read without having read the first one because I promise you will be at a complete loss for the majority of the novel if you don't. I have not read the first book in the series, but I imagine it helps ease you into the second which consists of seven, yes you read that right, seven points of views, a fact that added to my confusion.

Reservations About the Upcoming Movie - Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Exclusive FINAL Trailer

I have put off discussing this upcoming movie because I was so disappointed by the first; however it is a little over a week away so I figured it was time I said something about it. Of course I have purchased my tickets already and will be attending a double feature.

If the trailer is any indication of what we can expect, I think it will live up to my expectations, but I'm always afraid to voice these feelings out-loud and then be disappointed. But I am really hoping that the movie will make up for the first and I if nothing else, I can't wait to see Jennifer Lawrence in action, as she was the only positive thing in the first movie. So here's to hoping for a better sequel.

What are your thoughts? Will you be going opening night?
